Caring for your swimwear properly will help it last longer and keep its shape, elasticity, and colour intact. Here are some tips for taking care of your swimwear:
1. Rinse immediately after use with cold water
After every swim, rinse your swimsuit with cool water to remove chlorine, saltwater, sand, and sunscreen. This helps prevent any build-up of chemicals or salt; which can damage the fabric over time.
2. Hand wash only
Avoid using a washing machine, as it can be too rough on the fabric and cause stretching or fading. Instead, gently hand wash your swimsuit in cold water with a mild detergent. You can also use a detergent specifically designed for swimwear.
3. Don't wring or twist
After washing, gently press out excess water from your swimsuit, but never wring or twist the fabric. Doing so can stretch and distort the material. Lay it flat on a clean towel to dry; in the shade.
4. Minimise sunscreen or tanning oil contact
Sunscreens, especially those containing high levels of oils, can stain swimwear and break down the fabric. Be mindful of where you apply sunscreen; and if possible, allow it to absorb fully before putting on your swimsuit.
5. Avoid rough surfaces
Be mindful of rough surfaces, like concrete, rocks, or poolside edges, that can snag or damage the fabric. Always sit or lie on a towel if you're at the pool or beach.
